Change your address and forward mail with USPS

Choose the correct request

• Individual: one person is moving.
• Family: everyone with the same last name is moving from the old address to the same new address.
• Business: the organization is moving.
• Temporary or permanent: choose the option that matches the move and the forwarding period you need.

Online process

1. Open the official USPS change-of-address service.
2. Select who is moving and whether the move is temporary or permanent.
3. Enter the old address, new address, and requested start date.
4. Complete identity verification. USPS displays any identity-verification charge during the official process.
5. Save the confirmation code and notices USPS sends.

In-person process

Visit a Post Office with acceptable photo identification. Ask for a free Mover’s Guide packet, complete PS Form 3575, and give it to the retail associate for identity verification and processing.

Special situations

An authorized agent filing for someone else may need to visit a Post Office and provide identity and authority documents. USPS lists additional documents for minors and people who cannot act for themselves.

What this does not do

Mail forwarding does not guarantee that another agency changes its official address record. Notify the IRS, state or territory agencies, benefit programs, immigration services, financial institutions, insurers, and other senders separately when applicable.
