USCIS states that most noncitizens in the United States must report a change of address within 10 days. A and G visa holders and certain visa-waiver visitors are exceptions. Changing your address with USPS does not satisfy this USCIS requirement.
Preferred method
USCIS recommends using the online change-of-address tool through a USCIS online account. The tool can update the address for pending applications, petitions, or requests when you enter the receipt numbers.
Steps
- Gather your old and new addresses and USCIS receipt numbers.
- Sign in to your USCIS online account or open the official change-of-address tool.
- Update each pending case that should receive mail at the new address.
- Submit the change and retain the confirmation.
- Continue checking your online case status and mail.
Paper Form AR-11
You may file Form AR-11 by mail to meet the general reporting requirement. Read the current form page before mailing because the edition, filing address, and instructions can change. A paper AR-11 may not update every pending case automatically.
Special cases
Different procedures apply to certain VAWA, T, U, and abuse-waiver cases. Sponsors who signed an affidavit of support may also have a separate Form I-865 obligation.
